Heir to the English crown, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Prince of Wales and of Aquitaine, Edward of Woodstock, nicknamed the Black Prince, was one of the main protagonists of the Hundred Years' War until his death in 1376. While the English and Gascons saw in him a glorious future for their lands, the French, while recognising his warrior qualities, saw him as a bloodthirsty man. But was Edward of Woodstock what the legends say he was? Was he really the horseman of the Apocalypse described by the French?
