Stéphanie Lachaud is a lecturer in modern history at Bordeaux-Montaigne University, and has published several works on winegrowing, the city and wine, and wine marketing networks.
The vine is a crop that requires demanding skills, particularly in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries when the powerlessness of nature was often emphasised. Nevertheless, cultivation strategies and techniques were used to limit the impact of hazards and risks, reflecting a growing awareness of a new relationship with the environment.
