The stages

Step 1

From the Tourist Office, turn right into rue des écoles. At the end of the street, cross the Porte Saint-Martin to join the Rue des Douves on your left (follow the sign for the ‘Boucle de la Madeleine’). Continue straight on to the end of the street, skirting the old quarries.

Step 2

Take the ruelle de la Porte Sainte-Marie opposite you. Continue up Rue de la Madeleine to the entrance to Ch. Ausone. Enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the village and vineyards.

Step 3

Drive around the castle along the dirt track until you reach the road beyond. Take the tarmac track as far as the stop sign.

Step 4

At Ch. Belair-Monange, turn left towards Libourne/La Réole. On the way down, take the dirt track to the right of the road that runs through the vineyards, alongside the trees

At the end of this path, turn left down the plateau. At the bottom, turn left along the vines until you pass the first house.

At the junction, take the first road on the right (signposted Ch. Petit Gravet). Go straight ahead and cross the railway line until you reach the green ‘Boucle de la Madeleine’ signpost on the right.

Enter the property. Leave the first buildings on your left and enter the courtyard by taking the path to the right.

At the end of the road, turn left to follow the railway line and the rear of the Union de Producteurs (Saint-Émilion cooperative winery). Cross the small wooden bridge over the stream. You will arrive in the backyard of the ‘Cellier des Gourmets’ winery. Take the tarmac exit.

Step 9

Pass the railway line on your right and immediately turn left onto the path alongside the tracks. Then take the first path up on your right, at the yellow marker.

At the top, take the first track on the left (not the one leading uphill). At the end of the plot, go down a few metres to continue along the track, which will take you to a tarmac road.

At the road, follow the ‘Boucle de la Madeleine’ sign to the right.

At the bend, continue straight ahead on the dirt track. Turn right at the stone marker (Ch. Quintus) towards the trees.

At the trees, continue along the dirt track to the left. Join the tarmac road. Follow the tower on your left.

Turn right towards the Gaudin cross at the end of the plot.

At the crossroads, turn left and continue along this road until you reach the stop sign. You will arrive opposite Ch. Beauséjour.

Turn right at the stop sign.

Take the 1st street on the left. Go around the bottom of the cemetery along Ch. Beauséjour to reach the church of Saint-Martin de Mazerat.

Step 18

At the cemetery gate, Ch. Beauséjour Bécot is in front of you. Turn right towards the ‘Boucle de la Madeleine’ and Ch. Canon, between the low walls, as far as the stop sign. Turn left at the Porte Saint-Martin. End the route by turning left. Walk along the Clos Fourtet to the Collegiate Church. Walk past the Maison du Vi
