If you'd like to cycle from Saint-Emilion to Bordeaux, or vice versa, you can do so on the former railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path and named the Roger Lapébie Trail after the winner of the Tour de France in 1937. The 49km route has one main difficulty, a 4km climb between Branne and Guillac. (n°11-12).

The stages

Step 1

Pass the Maison du Vin and the church gate, turn left and follow the moat. Follow this small walled road as it winds through the vineyards.

Step 2

At the bottom of the descent, turn left and continue to the main road. At the junction, turn right and continue to the D670.

Step 3

At the junction with the D670, take care and cross opposite in the direction of Branne. Continue on the D122 for 3 km.

Step 4

At the give-way sign, turn left in the direction of Branne.

Step 5

At the stop sign, turn right onto the D936 towards Branne. Cross the Branne bridge over the Dordogne and continue straight ahead.

Step 6

At the intersection with the Route de Rauzan, continue along the main road. Turn left and head up towards Guillac on the D122 for 4 kilometres.

Step 7

Go through the village of Guillac and at the stop sign near the church, continue straight on towards Faleyras.

At the crossroads, go straight on for 100 metres towards Faleyras, until you reach the cycle path.

Step 9

Take the cycle path on your right towards Bordeaux. Stay on the Lapébie track for 27 km until you reach Latresne.

Go past Latresne and at the end of the cycle path, take the road on the left.

Before the roundabout, take the left-hand cycle lane to cross the roundabout. Continue straight ahead.

Go past the LIDL and continue straight ahead along the cycle path.

Continue along the cycle path alongside the Garonne.

Step 14

Leave the allée du Bastard on your right and continue straight ahead on the cycle path towards Bordeaux.

Step 15

Pass under the Pont François Mitterand and continue straight ahead on the cycle path.

Step 16

Follow the cycle path along the D113 towards Bordeaux.

Step 17

At the Pont Saint Jean bridge, continue straight ahead on the cycle path.

Step 18

At the Pont de Pierre, you have arrived in Bordeaux. You can reach the city centre by crossing the bridge.
